Indspire 2023 student bursaries

My name is Emma Werezak, and I am writing to thank you for your incredibly generous $10,000 Bursary that was provided through Building Brighter Futures program. I was ecstatic to learn that I was chosen as this year’s recipient, and wish to extend my sincerest thanks to you and all members of MLCN for supporting me while I complete my post-secondary education. I am a third-year Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) student who hopes to one day provide care for Indigenous Communities. I myself am a band member of Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, and am thankful to come from such a generous and welcoming community. Prior to entering the College of Pharmacy, I completed an undergraduate Bachelor of Science Honours Degree; majoring in Anatomy & Cell Biology. Words cannot express how grateful I am to your team for believing in me. This bursary will help with personal living expenses associated with clinical placements, debt repayment, and will provide relief from financial burdens. Through the generous acts of gracious donors, students like myself can focus on our studies due to not having to worry about making ends meet financially. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for your continued support and for all you do for community members and students alike. May you have a prosperous and healthy year ahead.

Emma Werezak

I am currently in my first year of a BSc with a major in Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta. My current plan is to complete the 4 year degree through the University of Alberta, and then likely do a masters to enable me to work as a wildlife biologist. From an early age I have had a keen interest in the living world around me. While my friends were interested in watching “Max & Ruby” I wanted to watch “The Nature of Things”. When I was three years old I wanted to be an “Animal Rescuer” just like Diego from “Dora the Explorer”. I have been interested in everything from plants and insects, to large mammals and the raptors of the sky. I look forward to the opportunities University will present to further explore other areas of science, and hope to obtain a job that would involve wildlife research and conservation. As a Muskeg Lake Cree Nation band member I am honored to be receiving this award, and I will use this money towards fulfilling my dreams of becoming a wildlife biologist! Thank you for your generous support in assisting me in furthering my education.

Sincerely,
Delaney (Laney) Lafond

Dear MLCN Investment Management Corp. Scholarship,

I am writing this letter to voice my gratitude and appreciation to you for sponsoring my studies at the University of Ottawa. Your scholarship will help me in my educational endeavours. I was more than excited to hear that I have been gifted this opportunity, and I am thankful for your help.

Studying Sociology has always been an interest of mine. This education will open many more doors for more significant opportunities. This financial assistance has made it much easier for me to spend more time on my studies and has put me on a path to greatness.

Thank you once again for your assistance!

Sincerely,

Hello, Tansi MLCN Investment Management Corp!

My Name is Julia Baniak, and I am a 2nd year BSc in Human Kinetics with a Minor in Health student at St.Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. I wanted to apologize for my Thank You Letter being super late.

I know this is a common excuse, but I have been swamped. I have always had this letter in my mind and finally found some time during Reading Week to sit down and write to you. I genuinely appreciate your support with my educational journey. Your funding has allowed me to focus on my schooling rather than on money. It has also allowed me to have more time to give back to my community through volunteering. I am currently volunteering at our Peer Support Center here at St.FX. It has allowed me to have a greater appreciation for our mental health

and has even helped push me towards Research involved in How Indigenous Mental Health is affected while seeking Physical and Mental Health support. I also volunteer at Best Buddies, which partners students with Cognitively Challenged individuals within the community. This allows them to have more connections and friends within the community. I am also on the Varsity Rugby team, which takes up most of my extra time at school. Lastly, I am able to participate in societies such as the Indigenous Society as the Vice President, working to make the campus a better place for Indigenous Students. I am super grateful for all this support. As you can see this has aided me in giving back to my community here at school and has helped me stay financially worry-free.

Hiy Hiy (Thank you),
Julia Baniak

Dear Sponsor of the MLCN Investment Management Corp,

I am Jenna Lafond, and I am currently in my second year of study at the University of Alberta. I am taking an undergraduate degree in Psychology and hope to go into a Master’s program hosted at the University of Alberta. Once I am finished with my studies I plan to move back to my hometown and start a career in counselling. This sponsorship has helped me continue to pay for my rent. As I am living in a completely different province for school, I have no family here to live. This sponsorship helps me stay caught up on my rent and be able to focus on my course work. I want to thank you for your generous support.

Thank you again,
Jenna Lafond

I was so happy to receive the email from Indspire about this scholarship.

I am in my second year Social Work Qualifying at the First Nations University of Canada Saskatoon Campus. Being awarded this scholarship lightens the financial worries of being a student and means that I can continue to focus on my studies and family and cultural activities. I am working on getting my Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work degree so that I can make a difference in the lives of others and give back for my chance to change my story to a positive one by helping others to the same.

Your generous support means so much I can’t thank you enough!!
