MLCN Investment Management Corp. (MLCN-IMC) is governed by an independent Board of Directors. The Board ensures corporate governance, strategic planning and goal setting for the organization, oversees management and reports to the shareholder.

Management is responsible for achieving the goals, and financial targets set out by the Board of Directors. Management is also responsible for reporting the results and developments of the corporation to the Board.

Sarain Lafond – Board Chair

A proud member of the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation having over 20 years of experience in the field of banking and finance. He has worked with First Nations across Western Canada on numerous projects over the years and has a wealth of experience and insight to share with his home community. Sarain has been on the board since 2018.

Dr. Jaime Lavallee

Dr. Jaime Lavallee is a Muskeg Lake Cree Nation citizen who has been on the board since September 2017. Dr. Lavallee is an assistant professor at the University of Saskatchewan College of Law. Dr. Lavallee has held various positions – from international legal training in Southern Africa; protections of cultural rights in the USA; and locally as a Director of Indigenous Governance, Law & Policy with the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council. Dr. Lavallee holds a J.D. from the University of Toronto and an LL.M. and S.J.D. in Indigenous Peoples Law and Policy from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law.

Jim Kerby 

With almost 35 years of experience in corporate/commercial law, Jim understands how business and good corporate governance works. Jim has almost 30 years of experience working with First Nations. Jim established, helped to build, and led the Calgary office of MacPherson Leslie & Tyerman LLP (MLT) from its inception as a two-lawyer office in 2002, to an office of over 20 lawyers when he returned to the MLT Saskatoon office as a Senior Partner in 2010. Jim retired as a Partner of MLT (now MLT Aikins LLP) in September of 2016. He currently serves on the Boards of several Saskatchewan-based organizations.

Laurie Shaw

A member of the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation. Laurie’s commitment to the success of our investments is her top priority. She brings a wealth of experience to this role in finance, business development, IT, HR and project management. Laurie has been chairperson for last three MLCN elections, Ratification vote (Soldiers Settlement) and currently working on the MLCN Election Act (1999) enhancements. She has spent 25 years in the IT industry and has worked with several well-known Canadian corporations. She has a passion for women in leadership in IT and continues to drive leadership in this field through one-on-one coaching and mentoring.

Milton Greyeyes – Board Vice Chair

Milton is a member of Muskeg Lake Cree Nation and has been a director since 2020. Milton currently works with FCC as a Senior Relationship Manager on the Indigenous Financing team based in Saskatoon where he helps support the growth of the Indigenous agriculture and food sector in Saskatchewan. Past work experiences include Nutrien, Saskatoon Tribal Council and McKnight Property Management. Milton holds a bachelor of commerce degree from Saint Mary’s University Sobeys School of Business and continues to be a lifelong learner, most recently in spring of 2023 completing a certificate at Harvard Business School.

Ben Robb

Ben is a Professional Engineer who co-founded a structural consulting firm in 1980 that is currently operating under the name of Robb Kullman Engineering LLP. The firm currently includes 7 professional engineers and related support staff. The engineering firm’s primary responsibility on new construction and renovations is structural engineering and does provide prime consulting services and project management on some projects. Ben was managing partner from 1986 until 2017, when he withdrew from the Partnership. He is currently a part time contract employee of the Engineering company with a focus on; mentoring, peer review, litigation support for construction projects and assisting with client liaison. Outside the Engineering company, Ben is involved as an equity partner in several co-ownership properties within the Province of Saskatchewan that are leased to a variety of commercial tenants.
